Eighteen kilometres and about forty minutes from the ashram. Twenty five from Nainital, and considerably quieter than both.
Why visitors choose Ramgarh over Nainital town
Most people book Nainital by reflex, then spend an hour on the Bhowali road each way to reach the ashram. Ramgarh sits on the other side of that junction. From here Kainchi Dham is 18 km and about forty minutes, and Nainital is still only 25 km, so you can do the ashram in the morning and Mall Road in the afternoon from one base.
The second reason is parking. Nainital has government lots and no private parking on Mall Road. Here you park at your own room door, which after a long drive with family matters more than it sounds.
The early start
Parking at the ashram is limited and the queue builds from around nine. Guests who leave here at seven park easily and do darshan, the traditional viewing, without a crowd. Tell us the night before and we will have coffee ready at six and pack breakfast for the road.
